When we met in October 2003, each of us claimed that the other was ogling. At a Wyclef Jean concert at Columbia University, Evelyn's Alma Mater, Jojo laid eyes on Evelyn and just couldn't turn away. (Evelyn's words.) Meanwhile, Evelyn was incessantly staring back to where Jojo was standing with his fraternity brothers. (Jojo's words.) Evelyn took the initiative to walk over to where Jojo stood and introduce herself. Jojo asked Evelyn for her number under the premise that he was a club promoter and could get her into parties on the VIP guestlist. Little did she know that Joe had retired from promoting months earlier! Joe called Ev the next day and they've been talking to each other every day since then. How We Got Engaged: With Evelyn's work and school schedule and Joe's work and travel schedule, the couple had seen very little of each other for several weeks during the fall of 2006. So, Jojo planned a date to spend time with Evelyn on the weekend of November 12th, supposedly to celebrate their recent 3 year anniversary. Jojo selected a fine Italian restaurant by the name of Il Trulli on East 27th Street between Lexington and Park Avenues in Manhattan, New York. The two got dressed up, Joe bought Evelyn a corsage, and arraged to have two dozen red and white roses delivered to the restaurant and placed on their table. Joe specifically chose to take Evelyn to Il Trulli because the restaurant had a reputation for making (among many things) the best Tiramisu, their favorite dessert, in the City of New York. Indeed, the food was incredible. They had their seafood entrees and plenty of wine (Jojo alone had 5 tall glasses of wine). After Evelyn and Jojo ordered their dessert, the waiter brought out one slice of Tiramisu and put it in front of Evelyn alone. Before she had an opportunity to protest on Jojo's behalf, Evelyn noticed that written in script around the plate in Chocolate syrup were the words: "Will your marry me?" and on the left side of the plate was a small blue leather box....... As Evelyn read the words and looked at the box, her hands were shaking and her eyes were watering and Joe was holding her hand, got on one knee and asked her to be his wife. She said "Of course." The entire restaurant was apparently in on the proposal -- owner, waitstaff, guests and all. There erupted a roaring round of applause all around the restaurant. It was something straight out of a movie and Joe's proposal and planning of it were absolutely beautiful.
